The Great Siege Tunnels in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, also known as the Upper Galleries, are a series of tunnels inside the northern end of the Rock of Gibraltar. They were dug out from the solid limestone using hands and simple tools by the British during the Great Siege of Gibraltar of the late 18th century.

We were on the cruise ship's excursion to visit this historical place. We opted for the tour bus to bring us up the rock instead of the cable car. Our tour began with a drive to the sanctuary of the Gilbraltar's oldest inhabitants, The Rock Apes. These tail-less monkeys (macaca sylvanus) were roaming free. After our encounter with the Apes, we continued our journey to the Great Seige Tunnels. The tunnels were very well maintained, informative and had panels detailing its fascinating history. We walked through the caves and learnt about its turbulent history and how the tunnels were dug through the rock. The walk through the caves was not too difficult and the views from the lookout were expansive.

After the tunnels tour, we passed by the Moorish Castle built in 1333 by the Moors. From here we proceeded to the Gibraltar Museum. On our way back to the cruise ship, Our driver drove us to the very unique Gilbrator Airport where it bisects major roads and all cars had to stop for arriving and departing planes.

It was a very wonderful and informative tour with a very nice, patient and humorous driver/guide!
