In this live Daniel will be joined by Dr Else Verbeek of Amazing Animal Minds to discuss what is known about emotions in the domestic dog.

About Else:

Dr. Else Verbeek is an animal welfare scientist and lecturer at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala (Sweden). She specializes in animal behaviour, cognition, emotions and the underlying physiological processes.
Else also runs Amazing Animal Minds, where she gives online courses about dog behaviour, stress and emotions for dog trainers and behaviourists who want to apply evidence-based methods in their own practice. She also helps dogs (and their owners) overcome stress, fear and anxiety.

One of her main research areas of interest is to develop new methods to measure emotional states in dogs. Measuring emotions in dogs is a challenge because they can't tell us how they feel. Developing better ways to assess dog emotional states helps us to understand why dogs behave in the way they do, and how we can better help dogs that struggle with fear and anxiety. She is currently adapting cognitive tests from human psychology to dogs, so that we can investigate if similar cognitive processes also underpin emotional states in animals.
