TF2: Elo Ranking. What It Is & How It Will Work [New Matchmaking System]

We look at how TF2's ranking system in competitive matchmaking will work once the next matchmaking update lands for Team Fortress.

It has been confirmed - both on the official blog and in an interview with Dave Riller (   • Interview TF2 Team - Dave Riller  ) that an Elo rating system is coming to TF2 in a future update.

"Elo" is a generalised term being used to describe any competitive matchmaking system in a competitive video game. We take a look at what pure "Elo" is, what Glicko-2 is - as Valve have previously confirmed this is used in CS:GO - and all the other details which may be involved in TF2's eventual Elo formula.
