This Chaneri Fort vlog(चंदेरी किला) is based on Chanderi Fort history in hindi(Chanderi kila ka itihas/चंदेरी किले का इतिहास) on my recent visit to Chanderi Fort Madhya Pradesh(कीर्ति दुर्ग). Kati ghati story is associated with the war between Babur and Medini Rai Khangar which happened in the year 1528. Chanderi Fort is situated at Chanderi in Ashoknagar District of Madhya Pradesh state at a distance of 127 km from Shivpuri, around 37 km from Lalitpur, 45 km from Esagarh and 38 km from Mungoali It is situated on top of a 230 ft high hill southwest of the Betwa River. Chanderi is completely surrounded by hills, lakes as well as forests and there are a number of monuments in this town. Chanderi is also mentioned in Mahabharata and it is said that Shishupal was the king of Mahabharata period.

Chanderi is located on the borders of Malwa and Bundelkhand. Chanderi's history dates back to the 11th century, when it used to be dominated by the trade routes of Central India and was known to be proximate to the arterial route to the ancient ports of Gujarat and Malwa, Mewar, Central India as well as the Deccan. Later, Chanderi also became an important military outpost.

Chanderi Fort, dominates gives a beautiful view of the lovely old town of Chanderi. The main gate of this ancient fort is called as the "Khooni Darwaza". Chanderi fort is located on a hill 71 meter above the town. The fortification walls were made mainly by the Muslim rulers of Chanderi. Towards the southwest of the fort there is a well known gateway known as Kati Ghati made through a hill side.

History of Chanderi Fort :

Chanderi is known to be mentioned by the Persian scholar Alberuni in the year 1030. Ghiyas ud din Balban is known to capture the city in the year 1251 for Nasiruddin Mahmud, who was Sultan of Delhi. Sultan Mahmud Khilji of Malwa captured the Chanderi fort the year 1438 after a siege of several months. In the year 1520, Rana Sangha of Mewar captured the Chanderi city, and handed it to Medini Rai, a well known rebellious minister of Sultan Mahmud II of Malwa. The Mughal Emperor Babur captured it from Medini Rai, In the year 1529 Raja Puran Mal defeated Babur's forces and captured the city. He ruled on historic city of Chanderi for 11 years, and in the year 1540 it was then captured by Sher Shah Suri, and was known to be added to the governorship of Shujaat Khan. The Mughal Emperor Akbar then came into power and made the city a sarkar in the subah of Malwa. The Bundela Rajputs captured the city from Mughals in 1586, and it was held by Ram Sab, who was the son of Raja Madhukar of Orchha. In the year 1680 Devi Singh Bundela was known to be made governor of the Chanderi city along with his commander in chief and prime minister of chanderi state Maharaja Chaubey Bhim singh, and Chanderi remained in the power of his family until it was captured in 1811 by Jean Baptiste Filose on behalf of the Maratha ruler Daulat Rao Sindhia of Gwalior. The city was then transferred to the British rulers in the year 1844. The British lost control of the Chanderi city during the Revolt of 1857, and it was recaptured by Sir Hugh Rose on February 14, 1858. Richard Harte Keatinge was then awarded the Victoria Cross for leading this assault. The city was then known to be transferred back to the Sindhias of Gwalior in the year 1861, and it became part of Isagarh District of Gwalior state. After India's independence in the year 1947, Gwalior became part of the new state of Madhya Bharat, which was later merged into Madhya Pradesh on November 1, 1956.
