Suprascapular Nerve Entrapment
Volleyball, baseball (especially pitchers), basketball, dance, bodybuilding, football and wrestling. Young overhead athletes and athletes with rotator cuff tears.

Anatomy: Arises from brachial plexus upper trunk.
Motor iinervation to the Supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles.
Sensory iinervation to the: Acromioclavicular and glenohumeral joints.

Two areas of compression:
Entrapment at Suprascapular Notch
Supraspinatus and infraspinatus denervation.
Loss of abduction and external rotation strength due to supraspinatus involvement.
Entrapment at Spinoglenoid
Isolated involvement of infraspinatus.

Symptoms: Poorly localized pain and discomfort in posterior, superior and/or lateral shoulder or upper back. Deep, dull chronic pain. Weakness with external rotation.
