Spinal Accessory Nerve injuries are usually due to direct trauma leading to a nerve contusion.

Anatomy: AKA Accessory Nerve (Cranial Nerve XI). Motor Innervation to the Trapezius muscle.

Symptoms: Pain and trapezius weakness. Inability to elevate or fully abduct shoulder. May have drooping shoulder, neckline asymmetry and scapular winging. Trapezius muscle asymmetry or atrophy.
Winging of superior medial angle of scapula may appear during shoulder abduction and external rotation.
