Day : 1 NJP to Manebhanjan

We had boarded a train named "padatik express" from Sealdah on the 25th of February and reached NJP on the 26th of February. From NJP we chartered a car for Manebhanjan. The sky was overcast with a flimsy layer of mist. As we ascended uphill, the thin layer of the mist transformed into a thick blanket of fog thus, masking the highways entirely. Slowly but steadily we drove all the way up to Gopal Dhara tea estate where a myriad of Bollywood films were shot due to its breathtaking panorama. The time we spent there was an absolute bliss!. After enjoying our time there we boarded our car again and reached Manebhanjan.The name Manebhanjan means the "junction of stupas". The quaint settlement Manebhanjan is famous for housing the trekking routes towards the "Trekkers wonderland" Sandakphu.

Manebhanjan (or Mane Bhanjyang) is a small mountain township located about 26kms from Darjeeling, 92kms from Siliguri, and on the border of India and Nepal at an altitude of 7,054 ft (2,150 m). Bhanjayang in Nepali means Junction, and Mane stands for Buddhist Stupas.
The two countries are separated by a small culvert, which also acts as a motor stand for vehicles ferrying people to Sukhiapokhri and Darjeeling. This small valley is a residence of approximately 500 households with an approximate population of 6000. Being situated within the ranges of the Singalila National Park, expansion of this 'forest village' is strictly restricted beyond its current borders so as to protect the surrounding forest and its ecosystem.



Gopaldhara Tea Estate, “one of Darjeeling's pride”, is one of the highest tea estates in Darjeeling producing Darjeeling tea. Out of a total area of 320 ha (790 acres), 172 ha (430 acres) have been planted with tea. ... Gopldhara Tea Estate produces premium tea, most of which is exported.
