All right, you've waited for long enough. Here is Mario Kart 8. If there are any questions, feel free to ask as a comment. That is, if you're able to comment at all...
These are the first four races I've played. Since you still don't get to change characters mid-room, I just left each room after one race, then selected another character for another room. I also wanted to keep playing until I could play on a new course, since, as you can see below (or as you watch the video), I kept getting retro tracks.
Since this is the first Mario kart 8 video, I ought to show you how the character selection and course selection works. Character selection works just like in Mario Kart 7, where you select your character, then the vehicle body, the wheels, and the glider. What's different is how courses are selected. You don't get every course this time around, but a choice of three plus Random. Random, as I found out, can be any course in the game. The idea seems to be to prevent people from selecting the same course again and again, since that gets real boring real fast.
Race #1
N64 Royal Raceway
For the first race, I picked Rosalina, who had unintentionally become my signature character in Mario Kart Wii. There's no Jetsetter here, of course. There is no automatic steering option anyway. I...personally don't like the new voice for Rosalina. Her previous voices had that mature and strong yet gentle (perhaps motherly) feel that's indicative of her nature. Here, she sounds high-pitched and ditzy like Peach, though hopefully I'll get used to it, and hopefully she sounds better in Smash Bros. 4.
Now, Royal Raceway is one of the courses with a special place in my heart because Mario Kart 64 was the first Nintendo game I played, and I really like what they've done with the place. It still feels the same as it was before, only now it looks like something made for this video game generation. Due to the lag, I couldn't seem to ram into anybody with the Triple Green Shells except by accident, so it seems as though I'll have a hard time sniping again.
Something important to note about Mario Kart 8 is that while you can still trail an item behind you, it does not disappear from the item slot. In that second lap, for instance, you'll see MçSlender holding a Banana but could not defend against two Red Shells due to this mechanic. I love it, but I can see the SASRT people whining from miles away about the increased role items play in this game.
Race #2
Wii Grumble Volcano
Here, I switched to Lemmy Koopa. (All seven of the Koopalings are in this game, though Bowser Jr. is out.) I was surprised to see another Lemmy! Rosalina is popular, so i wasn't surprised to find another Rosalina in that race, but I was genuinely surprised to see a second Lemmy here. Actually, Koopalings seemed to be popular in this room, as you can see Iggy, Morton, and Roy being used too. If you've followed my videos for a while, you may have seen bunches of races on Grumble Volcano in Mario Kart Wii. Well, here it is again, this time as a Retro Course in Mario Kart 8. It is rather familiar territory for me, though this game's physics are quite different, so there was no time to relax. Still, this place looks gorgeous now.
Race #3
GBA Mario Circuit
So, having played as Rosalina and finding another Rosalina, then playing as Lemmy and finding another Lemmy, I picked Pink Gold Peach, expecting not to find another one...and there she is, another Pink Gold Peach. Pink Gold Peach is new to this game and is Peach's metal counterpart, like with Metal Mario. It sounds like three different colors, but pink gold is real and is incredibly valuable. It does make me wonder if, in Smash Bros. 4, when Peach picks up a Metal Box (assuming the Metal Box returns), if she'll become Pink Gold Peach. You'll also see another Lemmy here.
The course here is GBA Mario Circuit. As far as environments go, this was pretty much a blank slate, as Super Circuit's Mario Circuit is about as plain as stages go. It looks like they went with a classic, iconic go-kart track. Still a rather plain place, but it's fun.
You'll see a new item in this video: The Crazy 8, which causes 8 items to spin around you. I didn't get it, but kyoojin (playing as Larry) did, who seemed to want to attack me by bumping into me, but I instead took the Mushroom and Coin. So much for that.
Race #4
Shy Guy Falls
Finally, here is a new course, Shy Guy Falls. I chose Wario for this one, and interestingly, I didn't see another Wario in this race. I didn't intend to pick a unique character this time around. I just like Wario.
Set in a crystal mine run by Shy Guys, Shy Guy Falls is the only course in this video to truly showcase the new anti-gravity gimmick. One part of the course has you go up a waterfall, the other making you go down another one. While under normal gravity, you can see the waterfalls, and while on the waterfalls, you can see the environment and parts of the course around you.
