It’s taken me over half of November to do it, but I’ve finally gotten at least one race on every Wave 6 course online, and by extension, at least one race on every course in this game online. The previous Mario Kart 8 Deluxe video featured Tour Rome Avanti, 3DS Rosalina’s Ice World, SNES Bowser Castle 3, and Wii Daisy Circuit. This one will feature GCN DK Mountain, Wii Rainbow Road, (Tour) Piranha Plant Cove, and Tour Madrid Drive.

In addition, just as the previous videos featured races as Pauline and Peachette, this one features races with Kamek and Funky Kong. Well, a race with Funky Kong anyway. The Miis also get an eye-popping 17 Racing Suits, and I’ll show a couple of them here. Each Racing Suit has its own signature trick animation as well, which I think is worth a montage later.

GCN DK Mountain
That is the cruelest timing of a Red Shell, to hit Kamek near the beginning of the cannon so Lakitu has to carry him manually to the end of the path, which is way slower than using the cannon. When you’re in a room with some other high-level players though, this becomes par for the course—I find that they are average drivers, for the most part, but are WAY better item users than me, able to time and aim to get the maximum impact possible.

Wii Rainbow Road
You’ll see there are two people in this room with 5-digit VRs, so they’ve played a lot of this game, though you’ll see with my own VR that I creep evert closer to that amount, iota by iota. I was trading 1st and 2nd place with someone else throughout much of the race, though I took too big of a risk with those big circular holes. Now, I don’t try to jump them without a Mushroom, not even along the furthest sides. Even the speed boost from a Star isn’t enough, though I might try starting a Bullet Bill over one.

Here’s Funky Kong! Maybe some people might not like that I put him on something other than a bike, but I don’t care. Using a heavyweight is pretty tough in a room like this though, where there are some very aggressive players. Low acceleration can be a real killer, but if you can establish yourself, you might not need to be too concerned with collecting Coins as you maneuver past the warzone with your superior top speed. Easier said than done though!

GCN Daisy Cruiser
I noticed 200cc races have become increasingly rare with each now Booster Course Pass wave released, to where they nearly went extinct. Here is a rare 200cc race, the first one I’ve played since Wave 6 came out, and well over 100 races later. Does this mean the odds are less than 1%? Nevertheless, 200cc is why I try to pick combinations of characters, vehicles, and wheels that give me roughly even stats. You never know when they’ll turn up.

Piranha Plant Cove
This is one of those courses that changes each lap, making it one of the harder ones to remember. I noticed some rooms are full of people very averse to these courses, while some other rooms are full of people who will pick them at every opportunity (except for Tokyo Blur, which is largely considered dull compared to Tour’s other city courses). Perhaps it’s fitting, also, that in a course set mostly in the sea, someone named “fishy boyy” is at or near the front of the pack almost the entire race.

Tour Madrid Drive
Finally, after about 175 races, we get Madrid Drive. This course came up five times before the game actually selected it, with as many as 75% of the room selecting it (meaning this was one of those rooms that prefers courses that change every lap). As I had reached a VR of over 9000 (and thus the scouter breaks), I was put into a room full of way more hardcore people…and a pair of poor saps. Eight people have five-digit VRs, while one other person has a VR comparable to mine. With the 9th highest VR, even low positions cause me to gain VR. You’ll see how hardcore a room this is that I barely gained any ranks even with a Bullet Bill, as they either know of ways to keep ahead of one or are so far ahead that it doesn’t matter. I got a Star and wound up losing one position from it.
