“Acknowledging that the steelpan promotes inclusive societies, sustainable communities and the creative economy and can have a positive impact on mental health and well-being, gender equality and youth empowerment, the General Assembly decided to proclaim 11 August as World Steelpan Day.” Furthermore, the Steelpan was proclaimed the National Musical Instrument of Trinidad and Tobago by Parliament on Wednesday, July 03, 2024.

Forged from the love of liberty, the “Pan Woman”, born in Trinidad and Tobago during WW11 - now in concert with her siblings of every creed and race - is dominating the global music industry in which the Steelpan has become the preferred instrument for education, entertainment, relaxation and therapy.

This video is dedicated to all Pan Women, worldwide, alongside Ray Holman and De Alberto who created the melody and lyrics for the song, respectively. Simeon “Mr. Sanch” Sandiford recorded Ray’s arrangement at Exodus Panyard with 100 players for the SANCH Digital Reference Cassette ‘Panyard ’87’ on February 02, that year.

Serendipitously, @Yuuki Murakami of Pan Village Steelpan School, is now exclusive Japanese distributor for the digitized SANCH archives.
