The wood tossed into a sacred fire, and the wood studded on palace walls - both one, both made by the same master. In this song, Gorakhnath evokes contrasts and abstract images to signal concepts of oneness and awareness. Smoke rises up to the heavens; Gorakh folds his hands in prayer; he has found his place in heaven.

This haunting song is sung by Kaluram Bamaniya, who belongs to a vibrant tradition of singing bhakti poets such as Kabir, Gorakhnath, Bananath and Meera in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh in India. He started learning at the early age of 9, by accompanying his father, grandfather and uncle on the manjiras. When he was 13 years old he ran away from home and went to Rajasthan, where he absorbed a wide repertoire of songs from an itinerant Mirasi singer Ram Niwas Rao for 1-2 years.
