My name is Mike Jones and I'm a Barista at Third Rail Coffee, right by Washington Square Park in New York City. I'm going to teach you some basic coffee making skills.

I'm going to show you how to clean the Espresso grinder in a semi in-depth way. This is something that can be done every other night or every night. Every month you'd want to do a more detailed cleaning, but this is perfect for just the day-to-day operations.

The first thing you're going to do is make sure that the chute is closed on the hopper, so that when you lift this up, beans don't go flying everywhere. You can just pull out a good handful of the beans, so you don't waste them, and you can use those for the next day.

Next, you're going to want to grind out all the excess coffee that's in the chute. It's either in the burrs or all the way down to the dosing chamber. So, we just want to grind those out to a pitcher. So once it stops grinding, you know it's clean. Take the hopper off, and then there a few ways you can go about cleaning right in here. You can use a brush and sort of scrape away any oils. You can also take a Shop-Vac and suck out whatever particles are left in there, for a deeper clean. You can do the same thing through the chute. This particular grinder has a cover on it, so we can't really get in there, but many home grinders especially, you'll be able to put a brush in where the Espresso comes out and clean that up nicely.

Finally, just wipe it down around the burrs and that's a pretty simple way to clean a grinder every night.
