Tâigí Phonics 2 - Final Consonants

Описание к видео Tâigí Phonics 2 - Final Consonants

In this video, you will learn the 10 final consonant sounds in Taiwanese. They are:

4 stops: h, p, t, k

For these sounds, do not pronounce the sound directly. Instead place your tongue or lips as if you were going to make the sound, and stop.

4 nasals: m, n, ng, ⁿ

The m, n, and ng are the same as in English. The small ⁿ changes the quality of the vowel (or vowel combination) before it. You can practice the ⁿ sound by pinching your nose.

2 "humming" sounds: m, ng

These are sounds that do not require any preceding or following vowel. Say them exactly as written: hum! Technically, these are called "syllabic consonants", since they can form a complete syllable on their own.

Here are the example words used for each sound:

ah-á (a duck)
a̍p-á (a box)
chha̍t-á (a thief)
ta̍k-ê (each / every)

m̄-sī (no, it's not)
n̂g-sek (yellow)
kong-hn̂g (a park)

kám-ū (is there? / do you have?)
kan-na (only / just)
khai-káng (chat), hái-káng (harbor)
m̄-káⁿ ([I] don't dare)
