China got champion in World Cup 2003 while Brazil was the silver medal holder. But Brazilian squad had changed a lot after World Grand Prix. I think this match was the main reason why many players were changed as well as the coach.
Post-Match Commentary :
China won almost all matches in 2003, the only matches they lost were vs Brazil and Russia in WGP preliminary round. Lost to Brazil made China almost cannot enter final 6. But end-up Brazil lost to South Korea unexpectedly and the Brazilian coach was fired and Guimarães was appointed afterwards. In Korean squad, the only experienced player was #6 Choi Kwang-hee (29yo, 1.73m). #11 Lee Meong-hee (25yo, 1.75m) did play in 2000 Olympic. And the coach was the coach during 1993-96 & 1999-2000, Kim Cheol-yong.
Even Korean squad without any star players, but the way they played was very special. Under the coach instruction, they used 'Zero mistake' tactics. They won't serve any errors and spike without power if there were blockers. Brazilians able to defence but they spiked long or made mistakes themselves. In 1st set, 4-5 points were spike out by Brazilians. In this match, you can see the win-loss was based on the mistakes made. This match was to see how Brazilians sent the victory to Koreans by themselves.
