-DESCRIPTION-
Usually when you are looking at buying a new harness for your pony or horse, we will ask you to measure your animal so we can get the best fit possible. There are times when people have a piece of existing harness that fits very well and in those cases they may want to measure that part. This video will walk you through measuring a few parts of the harness. (Keep in mind that you can't have TOO MANY measurements. So, measuring your pony horse and ALSO measuring a few harness parts will help us dial in harness fit perfectly.)

Below I'll list the different parts I measure in this video with the time stamp of where you can find it:
-- Explanation of the measuring tape I am using. I use a soft fabric measuring tape to measure the harness parts as well as when I measure my pony. @ 1:14

-- Brow Band: Lay your brow band flat when measuring. It's best to remove it from the bridle to get an accurate measurement. @ 1:25

-- The bit: When measuring a bit you measure between the cheeks. DO NOT include the cheeks in your measurement. @ 1:48

-- The Poll piece: Again, remove this part from the bridle, lay flat and then measure. @ 2:11

-- Girth: Lay your existing girth flat on a table or the floor and then measure from end to end, including the buckle! @ 2:38

-- Breeching: Again, remove from the harness and then lay it flat to measure. There are two ways you can measure, one is measuring ONLY the strap, from end to end. The other is to measure INCLUDING the breeching rings. @ 3:34

-- The Hip Straps: Lay flat and measure from end to end. @ 4:33

-- Turn Back Strap: Have this strap adjusted to the length it fits your horse or pony and then measure it from end to end. @ 5:04

-- Traces: Lay flat and measure from end to end. @ 5:30

-- How to measure a buckle: Remove all the straps from the buckle and then measure the INSIDE width. @ 6:09

-- How to measure the strap width: Simply hold the tape across the strap. @ 6:38

-- Martingale: Adjust this piece to the length it fits your animal best and then measure from end to end. @ 6:46

-- Measuring a Saddle: You will place the end of the tape on the middle hole of the girth strap on one side of the saddle, then feed the tape along the top of the saddle, keeping it flat, and end at the middle hole of the girth strap on the other side. @ 7:23

The harness I measured in this video is my Trail Harness. (available ONLY in the month of September!) The straps are the Royal Blue color.
