Railfanning South Perris - 1/4/17

Well folks, after a significantly long delay, I finally managed to head out and railfan the new 91 / Perris Valley Line extension. I decided to start my video series from the southern terminus of the line and gradually make my way north towards Downtown Riverside. The Perris - South Station is a rather large station, encompassing a lot of land in addition to the layover facility for the trainsets, all of which were just built within the last year and part of 2015. The infrastructure put in place for this line was certainly built on predicted future ridership, however it was a little disheartening to see the current low ridership of these trains between South Perris and Downtown Riverside and the long wait between trains. After talking to the security guard, it has been said that it is typical to see some trains arriving into South Perris with no passengers at all, where the train does not even stop at the station, as seen with Metrolink #732. Even though ridership is still slow to grow, overall it is rather pleasant to see this extension of Metrolink towards the Temecula area. I have always been curious to see if such a feat would ever happen and here it is, built and in operation with further potential growth ! (Sorry for the excessive wind noise at the beginning and the total video length. I managed to catch the trainset being moved toward the outlet of the yard just as I arrived, plus I wanted to film most of the activity, although the trains moved significantly slow to and from the yard / layover facility)

Note : The trains running between only Downtown Riverside and South Perris are all the same trainset, operating on a back and forth schedule.

Train 1 : Metrolink #731 with CabCar #672 & F59PH #860. Very prominent fog layer on this morning, making for a rather interesting shot in my opinion.

Train 2 : Metrolink #732 with F59PH #860 & CabCar #672. Typically if the train does not have any passengers left by the time it gets to South Perris, it will not stop and will continue on to the layover facility.

Train 3 : Metrolink #733 with CabCar #672 & F59PH #860.
