In this OET speaking role play, the setting is a patient's home (Home visit)where a nurse is visiting a patient suffering from COPD. The nurse talks to the spouse about the patient's condition and how the spouse has been managing since the spouse returned to work. The nurse explains that the patient requires round-the-clock attention and outlines possible ways for care - shifting to a nursing home or arranging full-time nursing assistance. However, the spouse is unable to quit their job or get a full-time nursing assistant. Thus, the nurse suggests that shifting to a nursing home is the best possible way. The carer is unsure about how to choose the best nursing home for the spouse, so the nurse explains the factors to consider while selecting a nursing home. By watching this video, nurses can gain a clear understanding of the scenario and how to discuss care for a spouse with COPD in the OET speaking role-play session.
