Honolulu, Hawaii Day 2 (Tropical Farms, Giovanni's, Waikiki)

Hi Everyone!

Welcome back to all those who are returning and welcome to all those who are new~

This is day TWO in Hawaii (really our first FULL day).

On January 9, 2024, we slept in a little bit and had a slow morning. I woke up around 845am along with my dad. Since we cancelled the tour for today, I had to figure out what we were going to do instead which took about an hour. I figured we do the "touristy" things that the tour would have done and tour the island and end the day hiking at Diamond Crater. My mistake! I thought I would have enough time to do it all before the 4:30pm cut off time but I was very wrong. We ended up getting ready closer to 11a and since my dad made breakfast it took time to eat and clean up so we didn't end up leaving the house til 1145/12pm when my goal would have been closer to 10am. I also didn't account for the traffic that started later on in the day which caused issues in the schedule later on.. but regardless! We had fun at our first stop at Tropical Farms; got to try a bunch of different samples. I thought we'd only spend MAX 30 minutes here but ended up spending a whole HOUR! So much to see and try! Then we went to Giovanni's shrimp truck for a late lunch. Thankfully there was no wait. I don't see the hype but it wasn't bad! We even got dessert at Ono Yo right next door (pricey for the size). That's when I realized that we had to skip Dole Plantation that I planned in order to make our Diamond Head Reservation. It was only 3pm but it was saying it would take over 1.5 hours to get to Diamond Head when it would normally take a little over an hour. I contemplated just going to Dole Plantation as our GPS said we would miss the deadline but my dad said he could shave some time off so we ended up trying to make our reservation instead. Unfortunately, although my dad did shave time off our estimated time, there was an accident right at our exit and it brought us back to being late for our reservation. I thought that the staff members would understand and be forgiving since it was only five minutes, but they were not. The staff was unfortunately very rude and mean; they wouldn't even let us use their bathroom as we came a long way. We ended up going back to the hotel very upset. My mom and julia changed and we ended up using this extra time to walk to the beach and explore the downtown area. We did some souvenir shopping and people watching before coming back to the hotel and changing before dinner at Duke's Waikiki. Duke's Waikiki is very popular and even months before I could only grab a 9pm dinner slot. The atmosphere is great and the staff are AMAZING. They even gave me a free dessert to celebrate my birthday! The food itself was just okay (the prime rib and the hula pie were my favorite). The experience left us very satisfied and let us end the day on a happy note! Definitely recommend~ especially if you're celebrating ! We then came home and rest up !
