The number of immigrant workers in Korea has reached more than 1.6 million. Although people are becoming increasingly
aware of the need for mutual respect and multicultural understanding, there are still times when difference is met with
discrimination. However, there are places like the healthcare clinic in Garibong-dong, Seoul, which has been treating destitute
foreign workers for 10 years. Over the years, the clinic has helped 410,000 foreigners neglected by the welfare system. It′s run
by Reverend Kim Hae-seong, Director of the Global Village of Love and Sharing.
Founded in 1992, the Global Village of Love and Sharing is an NGO that believes in human dignity, regardless of race or
nationality. The organization supports a shelter used by 4,000 people yearly; a soup kitchen that feeds over 210,000 people; an
alternative elementary school with 120 children; and MNTV, an online station that broadcasts in 13 different languages, not to
mention the 3,000 funerals it has arranged. All of these services are provided free of charge to foreigners in need.
Following a spiritual path as a Christian minister, Kim Hae-seong is a living witness to the history of multiculturalism in Korea, who
has devoted himself to helping destitute foreign workers. In 1998, he led the movement to pass the law on the treatment of
foreign workers, and in 2001, he argued that crayons and color pencils labeled “skin tone” were racist, and had the label
changed to “apricot.”
This week on [Heart to Heart], we talk to Reverend Kim Hae-seong, who has lent a hand where it′s needed most and has
worked miracles in a number of ways for over 20 years.

다문화에 대한 이해와 존중의 필요성이 더욱 강조되고 있지만, 아직 ′차이′를 ′차별′하는 상황도 발생하고 있다.
이러한 가운데, 외국인 근로자들을 무료로 치료해주는 서울 가리봉동의 ′외국인 노동자 의원′이 2014년 올해 개
원 10주년을 맞이해 화제가 됐다.
현재까지 총 41만명의 복지 사각지대에 방치된 외국인 노동자들을 돌본 주인공은, 바로 사단법인 NGO ′지구촌
사랑 나눔′ 대표, 김해성 목사다.
′모든 사람은 인종과 국가를 초월하여 존엄성을 갖는다′는 슬로건으로 1992년에 설립된 ′지구촌 사랑 나눔′은
연간 4천여 명이 이용하는 생활 쉼터, 21만 명 이상의 식사를 지원하는 급식소, 120명의 외국인 근로자 자녀들
이 이용하는 대안 초등학교, 13개국 언어로 방송하는 인터넷 방송국 MNTV, 안타까운 죽음을 맞이한 외국인 근
로자 3000여명 이상의 장례까지. 이 모든 것을 무료로 지원하고 있다.

그는 1998년 ′외국인 근로자 처우에 관한 법률′ 제정을 주도해 성사시켰고, 2001년, 크레파스와 색연필에 쓰인 ′
살색′이 인종차별이라고 주장, ′살구색′으로 바꿔낸 인물이기도 하다.
