New Zealand’s natural mussel beds are being restored with science and support from the Marlborough community, improving life on the seabed for the future.

PhD students Emilee Benjamin and Trevyn Toone are working with local mussel farmers on a special project in the heart of New Zealand’s Marlborough Sounds.
They are rewilding green-lipped mussels and restoring old shellfish beds. The restoration project will encourage wild mussels to re-establish in their historic habitat.
The project is tracking well and there are already signs of success.
