Link Rail 2 Line - Opening Day!

I've been quiet for a few months while working on a big project, but still railfanning around my new home of Seattle quite a bit in my spare time. My work takes me over to Overlake and Bellevue often and the Sound Transit Link Rail 2 Line segment from South Bellevue to Redmond Technology was in the process of being finished while I had shifts over in the Overlake area, so I managed to get some trains on a lunch break on two days in February on some unseasonably warm days. I think Sound Transit's Siemens stock are the first of their kind that I actually quite like the look of, so them and the Kinki Sharyo cars they have are a welcome distraction from the heavy rail action I've been getting around where I live in downtown Seattle.

Today, I went over to Wilburton station with the intention of catching the first revenue runs of the 2 Line since a friend was going to be onboard one of the first trains leaving South Bellevue. Even with the weather being quite sour it was really cool to see as many people as there were, both transit enthusiasts and members of the general public, out in force to ride the new line. A pair of the older Kinki Sharyo cars were to be run in-parallel with each other for the ceremony at Bellevue Transit Center, and I caught them heading across the 405 bridge as well as a few more revenue runs as they headed into the station. This was such a cool way to ring in the new line and the first time I've actually been present at a line's inaugural day despite several projects (PVL and Arrow) opening around me back in Riverside. So seeing the enthusiasm on display here from the general public was super cool :)
