Central Business District of Singapore | Singapore Financial District

The Central Business District (CBD), commonly referred to as "the city," is the bustling hub of Singapore's commercial and financial activities. Situated between the Singapore River, Marina Bay, and Chinatown, this densely built area is home to some of the most prestigious companies in the world, both local and international.

The CBD is dominated by impressive skyscrapers that form part of Singapore's stunning skyline and provide the backdrop for the dazzling attractions of Marina Bay. The best views can be captured during the evening hours from the Esplanade or The Shoppes, offering a panoramic view of the entire area.

The three highest buildings in the CBD are UOB Plaza One with 67 floors, Republic Plaza with 66 floors, and One Raffles Place with 63 floors, all towering at 280 meters.

Although offices occupy most of these prominent towers, some top floors are set aside for fine-dining restaurants. Patrons can enjoy not only delicious food but also stunning views that stretch as far as nearby Indonesian islands, Bintan and Batam, on clear days.

The CBD is also famous for its fantastic street food, with many Hawker Centres catering to the cravings of the business crowd. One of the most popular is Lau Pa Sat, a beautiful colonial-style building at the center of Shenton Way, Raffles Quay, and Cross Street.

Amidst the modernity, the CBD also features a few colonial buildings and temples, creating a wonderful contrast between traditional and modern Singapore. For instance, Yueh Hai Ching Temple in Philip Street, built in 1850, is the oldest Taoist temple in Singapore, with stunning three-dimensional roof ornaments.

Visitors to the area should start at the Fullerton Hotel and walk towards Raffles Place, the heart of the CBD. From there, Church Street, Robinson Road, Raffles Quay, Collyer Quay, and Marina Boulevard form a grid of streets lined with one office tower after another. Once you cross the street, Chinatown greets you with its richly colored and charming shophouses, making you feel like you've stepped into an entirely different world.
