Great Little Trains of Wales #1:
In this first part of this series of videos, we take a look at the Welshpool and Llanfair light Railway in mid-wales.

This 2ft 6inch gauge line runs for 8 and 1/2 miles from the town of Welshpool to Llanfair Caerinion through some beautiful Welsh countryside. Opened in 1903, the line was originally operated by the Cambrian Railway before being absorbed into the GWR in 1923. Freight traffic lingered through BR days until 1956 when the line was closed, however the preservationists re-started the line 1963 and the line is now operating at their original length.

On this particular day, their orange timetable was in operation with two trains running including a vintage mixed set. Kerr Stuart 0-6-2 'Joan' and line original Beyer Peacock loco 'Countess' were both in action.

The sun was in and out all afternoon but with plenty of time left in the day, there was lots to see and do as we explored this lesser known narrow gauge railway. Hope you enjoy!
