What does this movie and the 1954 “Godzilla” have in common? Reference to the Oxygen Destroyer? Well, no. Stop-motion animation. That’s right, if the swinging tail and crashing firetruck is one thing, then those little Destroyah crabs scurrying across the frame is another. These were animated by Koichi Kawakita. This was also a Dynamation-type shot because the background is with projected one frame at a time, like in those Ray Harryhausen movies, or it was done with compositing with an optical printer.
