RESCORE final battle scene of Waterloo. Rescore audio: Plait agus Domhnail (Clontarf)
Waterloo was produced in 1970 and directed by Sergei Bondarchuk. When it was released it was the most expensive production ever completed. The epic battle scenes included 15,000 extras in costume of the respective armies who fought at Waterloo. This feat has not been matched in film history.
The rescore audio for this excerpt of Bondarchuck's film is Plait agus Domhnaill (Clontarf) from the album "An Bhuatais & The Meaning of Life" rescore. Plait & Domhnaill (Clontarf) is an account of the battle of Clontarf from medieval sources which describes this historic encounter between Irish and Norse forces on the beach outside the town of Dublin on Good Friday 1014 AD. The battle started with a challenge to single combat from Plait, the champion of the Norsemen, to Domhnaill, the champion of the Gaelic forces. After an intense and "gruelling, grappling" combat of the two champions the opposing forces joined battle. Bothe the Gaelic account "Cogadh Gael re Gallaibh" and the Norse account "Njals Saga" tell us that the mellee was so fierce and so bloody that the air was thick with blood and equally thick with phantoms and demons snatching the souls of the fallen from the battlefield, and calling out the names of their champions.
