The document shown here describes the removal of the bumper.
On vehicles with pedestrian protection, (code U60) disconnect the battery.
Remove the underfloor paneling.
The following operation steps are the same for the left-hand and right-hand sides.
Disconnect the electrical connector for the bumper lamp.
Remove the lower expansion clip from the wheel well trim.
Lower the vehicle slightly.
Remove two more expansion clips.
Pull the wheel well trim back.
Unplug the electrical connector.
Disconnect the highlighted screw connections on the fender.
Lower the vehicle slightly more.
Remove the last four screws on the top.
Carefully remove the bumper from the four catch hooks.
Have an assistant pull the bumper forwards slightly.
At the same time, guide the bumper all the way out of the catch hooks.
Completely remove the bumper.
In principle, installation is performed in reverse order.
Readjust the gap dimension between engine hood and bumper using a feeler gauge.
If the entire front has been replaced, readjust the gap pattern.
Ensure that the gap dimensions are correct from the rear to the front.
Check the gap dimensions with a feeler gauge.
Mount the retaining rail.
This determines the final position of the bumper.
To adjust the retaining rail, only tighten the nuts enough that the rail can still be moved slightly.
Check that the retaining rail is positioned centrally.
Use the swage lines on the engine hood for orientation.
Check the height of the retaining rail at the three struts.
See the WIS document shown here for the dimensions.
Observe the correct measuring positions!
If the dimensions are not correct, insert 0.5 mm-thick adjusting shims.
Place the adjusting shims on the bolt as required.
Note: If you need more than two adjusting shims, longer bolts will be required.
Check the height of the retaining rail.
Tighten the nuts of the retaining rail.
Install the lower screws on the side.
Install the bumper.
Using a feeler gauge, adjust the gap dimension between the engine hood and bumper.
Evaluate the overall impression of the gap pattern.
The engine hood may not be higher than the bumper to prevent wind noises.
Perform the rest of the installation in reverse order.
