This video shows the removal of the front bumper on the SLK, model series R171.
A vehicle lift is required for this.
Remove the key.
Remove the height stops from the lock crossmember.
These define the gap dimension between engine hood and bumper.
Remove the two outer bolts of the bumper.
These hold the bumper from above.
Raise the vehicle for better access to the bumper underside.
Remove the two bolts shown.
Turn the wheels for better access to the front side in the wheel well.
Remove the two bolts of the wheel well liner.
Pull the liner forwards.
This facilitates access to the mounting bolts of the bumper.
Also remove the two bolts shown here.
They are positioned one above the other directly behind the fender.
Disconnect the connector to the front fog lamp.
Note: On the passenger side, disconnect the Parktronic connector.
Repeat the operation steps in the wheel well on the driver side.
Note: Pull out temperature sensor.
Finally, remove the two nuts behind the air grille.
Remove the bumper with the help of an assistant.
This is the bumper when removed.
Various other parts can also be removed.
These are identified by their connectors and plastic retainers.
Install in the reverse order.
Lower the vehicle from the vehicle lift.
After installation, check the gap dimensions between the engine hood and bumper.
See the corresponding WIS document for the exact dimensions.
Drive the vehicle forward slightly and check the setting of the front fog lamps.
Set the regulator for the deflection value to "20".
The SLK is now ready to drive again.
