Mahadeva Shiva Shambo is a devotional kirtanam to Lord Shiva composed by Thanjavur Shankara Iyer, in Ragam Revathi and set to Aadi Talam

We have tried to bring in a trance ambient feel to the music and have experimented with the lead guitar to bring in that effect…and apart from mridangam and violin, have also introduced Mizhavu and Idakka to embellish the piece

The Bhakti bhava has been brought in through the Bharatnatyam rendition…the Kathakali depiction is Ravana, one of the foremost Bhakts of Shiva…as per ancient mythology, Shiva, pleased with Ravana’s severe penance, offered Ravan a boon, in response to which Ravan asked for immoratality. The God, however, refused to grant him immortality. And so, Ravan then asked for invincibility and immunity from all Devta (Gods), raakshas (demons), heavenly spirits, serpents, and wild beasts…Ravana was ultimately defeated and destroyed by Rama, a divine human
