Riki grew up in the Williamsburg Hasidic community and began performing from an early age. Because she's a woman, she was often limited in the spaces she could perform, or the kinds of music she could create. Hasidic wedding songs were an acceptable genre, and she innovated in the genre by performing her own, fast-paced, lively version instead of the traditional more somber music.
