First DR arrangement this year that isn't tied to a project! Thought I'd go back to my roots and create a jazzy/ funky version of Cool Morning. While it's similar in feel to my arrangement of Beautiful Lie, given the pieces are very similar, I thought I'd incorporate tons of new ideas, instrumental variations, new phrases as well as a solo section that's very different from the one in Beautiful Lie. Most importantly though this was a lot of fun to make. May have even involved a lot of dancing too...

So I'm a huge fan of Cool Morning and Beautiful Lie. They easily rank among my favourite DR tracks (who knows, maybe I'll do a tier list someday). When I create these type of jazzy arrangements, I typically don't have a formal plan in my head (unlike orchestral arrangements). Instead, I have vague ideas of what I want it to sound like and come up with the majority of my ideas in the moment. This was a culmination of tons of ideas, improvising and generally just having fun! The addition of a vibraphone, steel pans, flugelhorn (sounds like a trumpet) and a funky guitar was born out of wanting. Studying the original plays a huge part of creating any arrangement. This was no different despite. Kind of like learning the rules before you break them.

Of course, there are classic Everything Fantasy style references. Across the entire piece, there are 6 references to other DR pieces. 4 in the solo section and 2 in the main body - nearer the beginning although both are really subtle! With all these references in my arrangements, I might actually do a video quickly showcasing what all of them are across all of my DR arrangements so far. But until then, thanks for watching!
