Coastal ecosystems (part 2) - Let's listen to scientists and coastal people...Speaking to each other, learning from one another. Because we must overcome the disconnect amongst coastal communities, scientists and decision-makers.
Shouldn't we all be working together to protect these vital ecosystems?

Coastal ecosystems are particularly rich and biodiverse – where 2 environments meet – water and land.
Coastal zones in Mauritius host a range of natural ecosystems (lagoons, coral reefs, mangroves, estuaries, mud flats, marshes, rocky shores, sand beaches and dunes, seagrass beds, rivers/streams and forests) that provide important services to people in the form of food, livelihoods, protection from coastal hazards as well as cultural/recreational uses. With the increasing threats that coastal hazards present to coastal communities in the light of climate change, the protection and restoration of ecosystems that can buffer against physical and socio-economic damages are essential building blocks in efforts to build resilience.
