Brigadier-General David Patterson joined the Canadian Army Reserve in 1979 as a gunner with the 2nd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery in Montreal. Taking his commission in 1980, he commanded the unit from 1995 to 1998 and later served as the Director, Reserve Training at the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College in Kingston, Ontario. He is also a Past President of the Canadian Battlefields Foundation. He is now retired from the Army and runs battlefield tours.
