For CPA and most professional exams, the grading is not a straight calculation. This is especially the case for computerized exams when the questions are different for different candidates. Yes, in fact, the questions are pulled from a big database and therefore there must be a mechanism to make sure the overall difficulty of the set of questions for each candidate is the same.
