Hokitika New Zealand 2024

Hi and welcome to this late afternoon pov cycling tour around the CBD area of Hokitika township.

This tour starts from the Mahanipua Creek and follows a section of the beautiful West Coast Wilderness trail from Mahanipua Creek heading north to Hokitika.

Hokitika ( The Cool Little Town ) was founded on gold mining in 1864 and was the centre of New Zealand's gold rush. By late 1866 Hokitika was one of New Zealand's popular centres.

Today Hokitika is a popular tourist town well known for Jade (greenstone) carving.

Hokitika its well presented town with its vibrant and well persevered historic buildings in the CBD area along with the annual driftwood sculpture contest that takes place on the Hokitika beach and the yearly Wild Foods festival.

Hokitika is situated among the stunning West Coast scenery from the beach to the rain forest and wetland and surrounding lakes and the snow capped Southern Alps Mountain Range.
