Hokitika to the Hokitika Gorge New Zealand 2024

Hi and welcome to todays drive from the beautiful seaside town of Hokitika on the stunning West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.

Hokitika ( The Cool Little Town ) was founded on gold mining in 1864 and was the centre of New Zealand's gold rush. By late 1866 Hokitika was one of New Zealand's popular centres.

Today Hokitika is a popular tourist town with its well presented town located among the stunning West Coast scenery from the beach to the rain forests and surrounding lakes and snow capped Southern Alps Mountain Range.

This drive starts from Hokitika township then heading east to the passing through Kaniere and Kokatahi and Kowhitirangi and continuing up the Whitcombe Valley Road to the Hokitika Gorge Scenic Reserve.

Note* Due to a editing error I was driving along the Whitcombe Valley Road not Johnston Road.
