Onginally penned in 1990, Lee re-wrote this song for The Outback Club album making reference to the pioneering Maddison Family's droving of cattle to the Bogong High Plains. The epic journey took place during the drought of 1882, a High Country tradition that continued for generations.

James Gillard and Mark Punch feature with soaring backing vocals, a cornerstone of what was to become the Lee Kernaghan sound.

High Country was the second hit from the 1993 ARIA award winning The Outback Club album, entering the chart on the 10th of October 1992 and held the #1 chart position for three weeks.
