Swati Maliwal is the chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW). Since after graduation, Swati has been tirelessly working for basic rights and safety for women and children. In this TEDx talk, Swati passionately talks about a range of issues, right from her personal motivations to pursue this cause selflessly, to the perils existing in society today due to which Delhi has been unfortunately labelled as the ‘Rape Capital of India’. Having had root-level experience with issues of women and child safety in Delhi, Swati takes the audience on a journey through the ground realities and highlights how the audience could take action to help. Ms Swati is the chairperson of Delhi Commision for Women. After completing her graduation, she decided to take the road less travelled and left the job at a major technology giant and started to work for basic rights and safety for women and children. Being a social activist, she had organised campaigns regarding RTI relating to women issues, worked with Public Cause Research Foundation (PCRF), Parivartan NGO and campaigned for Greenpeace India. She is now making a major impact on issues being faced by women in Delhi. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
