Making studios for academics: Making as wellbeing, making for wellbeing
is a research project by Professor Narelle Lemon (Edith Cowan University), Associate Professor Sharon McDonough (Federation University) and Associate Professor Mark Selkrig (The University of Melbourne) that employs a qualitative participatory arts-based methodology to explore how creative methods can help represent and reflect the changing nature of academic work. The study involves two studio making sessions, each focusing on a specific creative approach: poetic inquiry and visual representation.

This documentary captures the June 2024 Melbourne studio making session, "Renderings and well-becoming: Making marks to capture the ineffable dimensions of our academic lives," that engages participants in simple drawing and image-making activities. Participants create visual representations and portraits that express the multifaceted sensory aspects of their work as academics in the changing higher education environment.
