The name 'Vahala' was given because the temple guarded the gates of the gods and the Buddha. This is the fastest dance in the entire Devol Maduwa and continues to be played by the drums. Other teachers believe that if the drumming stops, the teacher will be harmed. The dance manages to evoke a sense of wonder and awe, and at the end of the day, the teacher falls asleep near the doorway. He removes the torch from his hand by sprinkling water from the Kahadiyara Kothala, removes the Vahala hat and reminds him, then sings the Seth Kavi of the Vahala god to the spectators and concludes the dance.

තුන්බාගේ දෙවොල්මඩු ශන්තිකර්මයේදී පලවෙනි බාගෙ පත්තිනි දෙවියන් උදෙසාද දෙවෙනි බාගෙ දැඩිමුන්ඩ දෙවියන් උදෙසාද තුන්වන බාගෙ දෙවොල් දෙවියන් හට සිදුකෙරෙන අතර දැඩිමුන්ඩ දෙවියනෙගෙ ඡායාරූපයෙන් සැරසි හත් පද පෙල පාලියක් ගෙනහැර දැක්වීම් වාහල නර්තනය වේ. දැඩිමුන්ඩ, වාහල බණ්ඩාර හෙවත් දේවතා බණ්ඩාර දෙවියන් වෙනුවෙන් වාහල නැටුම පුදයි. ගම්මඩුවෙහි පුද ලබන දැඩිමුණ්ඩ හෙවත් වාහල බණ්ඩාර දෙවියන් පිණිස පවත්වන නර්තනාංගයක් වන මෙය යක‍ෂයන්ට සෙන්පති තනතුර දරන මෙම දෙවියන්ගේ දිෂ්ටිය ආවේෂ කරගෙන ඇදුරෙකු විසින් මෙම නර්තනය සිදු කරනු ලබයි. වාහල දෙවියන්ගේ ඇඳුමට සමාන ඇඳුමකින් සමාරෝපණය වන ඇදුරා පැය 1 1/2 ක් 2 ක් පමණ ත්‍රාසජනක ලෙස නර්තනයෙහි යෙදෙයි. වාහල තොප්පිය නම් දැඩිමුණ්ඩ දෙවියන්ගේ කිරුළට සමාන තොප්පියක් දමා සුදු, රතු, කළු මිශ්‍ර හැට්ටයක් ද ඊට ගැළපෙන සායක් ද ඇඳ දෙකකුලට ගිගිරි බැඳ දැඩිමුණ්ඩ දෙවියන්ගේ මල් ආසයන ළඟ පුටුවක වාඩි වූ පසු, අනෙක් ඇදුරෝ වාහල බණ්ඩාර දෙවියන්ගේ කවි ගායනා කරති.

The Ganewatta Devalaya, which has been worshiped by the people since time immemorial, fell into disrepair after the collapse of the Kotte Kingdom and was demolished by Somaweera Chandrasiri, a former Deputy Minister of Culture, to make it a sacred place. A magnificent procession was started in Ganewatta in 1949. Since then, with the help of philanthropists and the people of the area, an Esala Perahera and a Madhu festival have been held at the Ganewatta Devalaya in a grand manner.

It is believed that this Mampe Ganewatta Devalaya was built by Prince Sembagabperumal alias Sapumal, a general during the reign of King Parakramabahu VI during the reign of Kotte. According to ancient legends, Prince Sapumal saw a mango forest at this place on his way to conquer Yapa Patuna and stayed there for a few days. Later he conquered Yapa Patuna and built a beautiful temple to the god Kataragama. An ancient Bo-tree that has existed since ancient times still flourishes in the temple grounds. A few stone pillars, the base of the ancient temple, the stone foundation, and a series of stone steps are all good evidence of the past.

කෝට්ටේ රාජධානි සමයට අයත් හය­වන පරා­ක්‍ර­ම­බාහු රාජ සමයේ එතු­මාගේ සෙන්ප­ති­යකු වූ රණශූර සෙම්බ­ග­බ්පෙ­රු­මාල් හෙවත් සපු­මල් කුමා­රයා විසින් මෙම මාම්පේ ගණේ­වත්ත දේවා­ලය ඉදි­ක­ර­න්නට ඇතැයි විශ්වාස කෙරේ. අතීත කතා අනුව යාපා පටුන ජය ගැනී­මට යන ගම­නේදී සපු­මල් කුමා­රයා විසින් මෙම ස්ථානයේ අඹ වන­යක් දැක දින කීපයක් නවාතැන් ගත් බවති පසු කලෙක යාපාපටුන ජය­ගෙන පැමි­ණ කත­ර­ගම දෙවි­යන් උදෙසා මනරම් දෙවො­ලක් ඉදි­ක­ල බවත් පැවසේ. අතීතයේ සිට පවතින ඉපැ­රණි බෝධීන්වහන්සේ නමක් අදටත් දේවාග භූමියෙහි විරාජමානව වැඩ වෙසේ. ගල් කණු කිහිපයක්, ඉපැරණි දෙවොලයෙහි පාදම, ගල් අත්තිවාරම, ගල් පඩි පෙළක් මෙහි යටගියාව පිළිබඳ කියාපාන කදිම සාක්ෂි සාධක වේ. එමස්ම කෝට්ටේ යුගයේදී සත්වැනි බුවනෙක බාහු රජු විසින් සෙම්බගප්පෙරුමාල් නැමැත්තෙකු හට ගම්වරයක් ලෙසින් මාම්පේ ගම පවරා දී ඇති බව සන්නසකින් කියැවෙයි. තවද දෙමළ දුවේ නම් ගමක් ද ඔහුට පවරා දුන් බව පැරණි දේවාල තඹ සන්නසෙහි කියැවෙයි. ප්‍රදේ­ශ­වා­සීන්ගේ උදව් උප­කාර ඇතිව ගනේ­වත්ත දේවා­ලයේ ඇසළ පෙර­හරක් හා මඩු මංගල්‍යක් අති උත්ක­ර්ෂ­වත් අයු­රින් පැවැත්වීම සිදු කෙරේ.
