Hydrogen and Aviation: Where do we start?
This lecture seeks to cover the challenges and alternative approaches to zero- (or low-) emissions flight. Discussing what this will mean for infrastructure to support more eco-friendly aircraft operations in the future and finally, the part that Project FRESSON will play in this helping to develop the technologies needed to meet the goal of a zero/low emissions future.

Jenny Kavanagh CEng PMP: Cranfield Aerospace Solutions - Chief Strategy Officer

Jenny Kavanagh joined Cranfield Aerospace Solutions in 2017 as Head of Airborne Systems, moving to the role of Chief Strategy Officer in 2020 following the successful launch of Project FRESSON, an ATI funded project to convert a 9-seat Britten Norman Islander aircraft to hydrogen fuel cell propulsion. Jenny has been a Chartered Engineer for over 20 years. She is also a Project Management Professional with the PMI, having lead product development projects in aerospace for the past 17 years. A mother of two, she is passionate about the aviation industry’s ambition to decarbonise and to help create a cleaner world for future generations.

Rob Marsh: Cranfield Aerospace Solutions - Director of Engineering

Rob Marsh joined Cranfield Aerospace Solutions in 2019. As Director of Engineering, he leads the company’s engineering function and is Chief Engineer for Project FRESSON, which aims to deliver world’s first truly green, passenger carrying services, using hydrogen fuel cell technology. Prior to joining Cranfield Aerospace Solutions, Rob spent 4.5 years in manufacturing logistics with Jaguar Land Rover, working on new plants in Brazil and Slovakia, the new Land Rover Defender and conventional and electric powertrain projects. Before Jaguar Land Rover, Rob served 26 years as an Engineer Officer in the Royal Air Force, in various roles, from fast jet maintenance to military logistics. Rob has master’s degrees in mechanical engineering (Leeds), business administration (Durham), aerospace vehicle design (Cranfield) and defence studies (Royal Military College of Canada). He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of both the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Aeronautical Society.
