Scenes of the Blue Ridge Parkway include three 1946 Dodge Deluxe cars (:45-1:17). A 1946 Ford Super Deluxe convertible drives down the winding curves (1:18-2:43). An animated map is shown (2:44-3:29). A play is reenacted on Roanoke Island (3:30-4:40). Bath was the first permanent settlement (4:41-4:53). The University of North Carolina opened in 1725, with its old well meeting place (4:54-5:23). A pylon on Kill Devil Hills marks the Wright Brothers flight (5:24-5:40). The State Capital building is shown (5:41-5:57). A street car trolley moves through Greensboro (5:58-6:18). Tobacco cities are Winston-Salem and Durham, home of Duke University (6:19-6:42). A ship moves through Wilmington Harbor. Asheville, located between two mountain ranges, has the Biltmore House chateau (6:43-7:30). A tourist takes out a cigarette and lights it (7:31-7:53). African American and white sharecroppers gather tobacco leaves, lash them to stakes to dry, then in a barn to cure. Once golden, they are taken to market. The auctioneer is heard auctioning off the leaves, which are then processed (7:54-10:17). A machine rolls the cigarettes and a woman gathers them off a moving conveyer (10:18-10:55). The cigarette papers are made from the Davidson River near Brevard, shown in production (10:56-11:35). Large schools of menhaden are caught, from which fish oil is extracted (11:36-12:24). Farmers work in fields of peanuts, where the harvesting process and packaging is shown (12:25-13:50). People pick cotton in the field. A factory shows it being made into fleecy bowls, which are transformed into yarn (13:51-14:25). In Burlington, nylon hose are shown being manufactured. A chemist adds colored dyes and a woman pulls the stockings onto cardboard silhouettes (14:26-15:15). Lumberjacks use a two-man saw and an axe. Timbered logs are stacked onto train cars for lumber mills. Finished furniture is made at High Point and Lenoir. A multiple carving machine shapes 24 identical pieces at once. Finished chairs are upholstered (15:16-18:00). Mountain scenery includes Chimney Rock, Mount Mitchell, and Grandfather Mountain. Shown are the unique flame azaleas (18:01-19:28). People trek through the Great Smokey Mountains, and feed a wild black bear near Fontana Dam (19:48-21:00). A yearly singing festival is held at Grandfather Mountain (21:01-21:17). A woman spins and a man hand-carves wood, with multiple finished products shown (21:18-22:20). A woman in a skirt catches a trout as her husband cooks at a tent. A group enjoys a picnic (22:21-23:58). Bridle paths encourage horseback riding (23:59-24:24). Women stand on a boat top and fish for bass (24:30). There are sand dunes in the Sandhills and resorts with golfers and fox hunting (24:20-26:13). The Outer Banks are shown, as is Ocracoke and Hatteras (26:14-27:10). The beach resorts are full of ocean swimmers, a woman fishes in the surf, men fish on a pier, and others from a yacht (27:11-28:13). Many sailboats are seen, waterskiing, and speed boat racing (28:14-29:28). Women in bathing suits play in the surf and sand (28:14-29:40). Scenes are revisited.
