KILLER 30 Minute Drum Rudiments Practise Routine: Day 7
It’s now time to separate the men from the boys, or those that identify as them. Or not. This workout is harder going than previous ones, not least because it’s 10 minutes longer! Also, I’ve switched off the electric drums because they don’t come across very well. Instead, you’ll just hear the sound of the mesh heads.

This workout is in three parts. The first is ‘high intensity’ and works on singles, doubles, paradiddles, flams and drags; the essential rudiments EVERYONE needs to know to attain a good level of proficiency. Next, in Part 2, I ease off a little as I focus on my weaker rudiments. Although not exactly ‘rest’, this part is less intense when compared to part 1 due to the slower tempi required to play these tricky rudiments with any level of accuracy. The final part marks a return to the higher intensity work of part 1 (with just a few changes to the running order).

Once again, I didn’t warm-up before I recorded the video. I go in cold but it doesn’t take long to loosen up. It’s a good idea to go easy for the first few exercises, just to reduce the risk of injury!

I really enjoyed playing through this workout and will definitely return to it. I think shifting to a lower gear in Part 2 worked as it introduced a period of recovery. This meant I could go for it harder in the final section.
