Watch Holly create these darling little patchwork blocks: Nine Patch, Checkerboard, Little Checkerboard, and Intersection. These are blocks in Month 2 of our sew-a-long as we create the Jen Kingwell BoHo Heart quilt pattern. These are also great blocks that will work in any quilt if you scale the size strips you use to make them.

Partial Transcript:
Hey friends, my name's Holly. Today I want to show you how to make a simple nine patch quilt block. If you've done a simple patchwork quilt, this is a great next step. Behind me is a great vintage version of a patchwork quilt. These are the nine patch blocks. And then beside it, they've done a solid block. Beautiful fabrics in that one. I'll show you a closeup of that in a second. But so for this month, I'm going to show you a little version of a nine patch. Then we're going to go bigger with a checkerboard and then an even larger checker board. So if you've done some patchwork, maybe just bigger squares in your sewing, this is the same thing just on a smaller scale. You can upsize what I'm about to teach to whatever size you wanted. Imagine if you wanted to do something that looked like a checkerboard, but you used say 12in pieces of fabric for your squares. And like that could be your whole piece. That could be your whole quilt. So for this month in the boho heart block of the month program, the sew along that we're doing with Artsy Girl Gang, we are doing these blocks, the nine patch checkerboard, little checkerboard. There's a block called Intersection that uses all of these same skills. And the beautiful thing about this month's blocks is that what they have in common is they're all going to start with strip piecing. You may remember that last month we had some 1 and 1/2 in strips. You may have some scraps from that. You can absolutely use them. This month's blocks for month two of the quilt along all include a 1 and 1/2 in strip. If you're just learning about these blocks, just for the fun of it, you can make them in your strips whatever size you want your square blocks to be. Thanks for joining me today, friends. Enjoy. Here's the quilt.
In today's video, we're going to talk about how to make nine patch squares. That's where we'll start. we'll move on into checkerboards. For all of those things, we're going to talk about how to make them easier using strip piecing. And so today, we get to start out. Everything's going to have a 1 and 1/2 in strip in it today. So, we're going to start with just cutting some 1 and 1/2 in strips. If anything in your quilting world is ever feeling overwhelming, break it down into small pieces. And so I was really happy that we could break this down into an easy first step: you're just going to press some fabrics and then cut them into one and a half inch strips. I've laid out some fabrics that I will consider as we go along today.
