1973 Mach 1 Detailed AOD Linkage for Throttle Valve Pressure Adjustment

Due to variations in the microphone location you will need to adjust your speaker volume during this video. More info follows below:

In this video I focus on the details of the AOD Throttle Valve Pressure linkage at the carburetor end of the linkage. This includes showing the 0.275" thick adjustment gauge I fabricated from a 5/16" (inch) nylon bolt. I used a course flat file to cut down the thickness of the nylon bolt on two opposite sides of the nylon bolt. I used a bench vise to hold onto the nylon bolt as I used the file to shave away at the nylon threads, until I achieved the needed 0.275" thickness of the measuring gauge piece.

I have some other videos I produced a while ago that shows the detail on the Throttle Valve Pressure linkage at the AOD transmission itself. The directions that come with the Throttle Valve Pressure cable kit shows two different ways to mount the cable at the AOD, depending on how the Throttle Valve Pressure linkage arm is oriented. The video also shows how I used a Lokar Shift Shaft, with many possible adjustments, to attached the AOD Shift Shaft arm to the original Automatic Transmission shifter that came with the Mustang from the factory. There is no need to replace the transmission floor shifter with an aftermarket unit. There are still more videos with links below that show how I connected the oil pressure gauge to the AOD, and then adjusted the Throttle Valve Pressure.

The factory spec for Throttle Valve Pressure is 30-35 PSI at idle, in Neutral (not Park). In my last TV PSI setting adjustment I set the pressure to 39 PSI. I did this in order to increase the road speed where the 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 upshifts occur on light throttle. It also made the upshifts a little more firm. I could have done the same with the installation of a Shift Kit, but I did not want to modify the internals of the AOD. Also, a little additional pressure will not hurt the AOD. But, too little pressure for the Throttle Valve can destroy the AOD internally.

In the videos I provide links to below you will find parts and vendor lists for the various parts we used for our AOD swap. If anyone has any questions about this AOD linkage or adjustment, please feel free to post your questions as a reply to this video.

You can find several other AOD and AOD Throttle Valve Pressure Adjustment videos I created by searching on "Gilbert Hale AOD" in the YouTube search field. The listed videos will have an initial description/title, and a small sample of what the videos contain. It is better for anyone needing info on my AOD experiences and videos that way as opposed to me trying to list all of the videos in this description. The link for that search term is:
