How to Motivate and Engage Adult Learners:
Learning professionals have great insights, ideas, and concepts to share with learners. This is about the opportunity to make connections. It's about how to help learners go beyond the content, the "what," and get to the "why." Motivating and engaging adult learners involves the practical ways you can create learner centered content that presents an invitation to the learner. Accepting the invitation allows learners to make various types of connections to the content, with other learners, and to the business. Motivated and engaged learners are more likely to make a difference on the job and more likely to seek out additional learning opportunities. Effective motivation and engagement extends the learning often in ways that go beyond what you could have imagined. However, motivation engagement, connection and invitation, can sound like elusive concepts. Make these concepts real by exploring the practical methods you can use in a variety of learning settings: how to connect with learners in formal settings with "Wow" experiences; how to promote connection during informal opportunities with motivating invitations; how to make lively connections with the use of technology in social learning opportunities; how to use action learning to connect with the business; and how to extend an invitation for connection with performance support tools throughout the learning experience.
