STORYLINE:

Paris, the city of lights, celebrates Christmas the way it does best, by dressing up its grand boulevards with festive lights. Paris sparkles this time of year.

Renowned department stores, such as Galeries Lafayette and Le Printemps, mark the annual festive season with lavishly decorated Christmas windows.

The busiest season of the year, these upmarket department stores hope to entice Christmas buyers to splash out on presents.

According to Delphine Razurec, Galeries Lafayette's toy department purchaser, the most popular Christmas items for children this year include karaoke machines, action figures, and interactive games.

But the season of good will has a hard economic face - many retailers count on Christmas sales to meet their sales goals.
