The Story of Tyrrell's HVD Vineyard

Описание к видео The Story of Tyrrell's HVD Vineyard

Bruce Tyrrell and Andrew Pengilly discuss the HVD vineyard and what characteristics this piece of land brings to the wine that is produced from it.

The HVD Vineyard was planted by the Hunter Valley Distillery Company, which was formed in 1903 when the demand for spirits was high. The distillery was designed to take excess grapes for distillation into fortifying spirits for the manufacture of fortified wines, especially port. Penfolds bought it in 1948. The old vines block on this vineyard were planted in 1908 and is believed to be the oldest Chardonnay block in the world. Murray Tyrrell always said it was one of the finest white wine vineyards in the Hunter Valley, and it was a coup for Tyrrell’s when he bought it in 1983.

The fruit from this vineyard produces one of our Single Vineyard wines - the HVD Semillon.
