Greece's ousted king Constantine said on Sunday (22/12) in Istanbul that he hoped to return to his country as an ordinary citizen.
Constantine was toppled by a Greek military coup in 1967 and has been living in exile since then. He was deprived of his ruling rights in a 1974 referendum. The former Greek king was in Istanbul for the baptism of his five-month-old granddaughter in a ceremony attended by several European royal figures. Britain's Prince Charles and Spain's Queen Sophia, who is also Constantine's sister, took part in the baptism of baby Maria Olympia at the Istanbul Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarchate.
Britain's Prince Charles was one of the baby's godparents and held Maria after she was dipped in holy water.
