In this instructional video, I provide a demonstration of Striking Set 1, a set often required for promotion to Blue Belt in American Kenpo. This set is designed to enhance students’ striking techniques using a closed fist, focusing on both single-arm and dual-motion applications.

Striking Set 1 emphasizes the execution of various striking techniques from a stationary horse stance. This position allows practitioners to concentrate solely on their hand strikes without the distraction of footwork patterns or stance transitions. A key objective is to refine the mechanics of striking with a closed fist, showcasing multiple angles and paths for effective delivery.

The set includes essential techniques that teach students how to effectively strike while adapting to an opponent’s defenses. One critical aspect of this set is how to roll off an opponent’s blocking arm after they successfully intercept our initial punch. This technique ensures that the subsequent strike can land effectively, maintaining offensive pressure.

By isolating the hand strikes within this set, students can hone their skills and improve their striking accuracy and power. The practice reinforces the importance of using the point of origin as a reference between each strike, allowing for fluid transitions and enhanced control over each movement.
