The Roots Running Project coach Richard Hansen assigns the squad a 16 mile hilly hard long run at the famous Magnolia Road, a short drive up the mountains from Boulder, Colorado.

Frank Lara attempts to break his course record while Luke Caldwell, Noah Droddy, Sydney Gidabuday, Willie Milam, Ryan Root, Maggie Montoya, Jen Bergman and Carlos Fernandes battle the hills at 8000-8700ft (2650-2850m) elevation.

The 8-mile stretch of Magnolia Road has been the proving ground for hundreds of elite distance runners -- Olympic medalists, world record-holders, NCAA champions, and big city marathon winners.

The list of those who have trained on Magnolia Road reads like a who's who of champion runners and record-holders: Frank Shorter, Rob De Castella, Steve Jones, Lee Troop, Arturo Barrios, Adam Goucher, Jorge Torres, Dathan Ritzenhein, Constantina Dita, Evans Rutto, John Korir, and Mizuki Noguchi, to name just a few
